Wood Treatment

how to get rid of drywood termites and powderpost beetles

Without proper treatment, wood destroying organisms will look for cellulose material and damage the structural wood of a building. Drywood termites do not require contact with the soil so a spot treatment is mandatory to get rid of them and stop their progress.

It is important to check and treat for Subterranean Formosan termites, Carpenter ants, and wood-boring beetles such as Powderpost beetles to protect your wood from costly damages.

During the inspection of each wood part to assess the damage and the insect responsible, the applicator must evaluate the level of damage and judge the eventual need for replacement of certain parts.

BEFORE WOOD TREATMENT

First and foremost, using chemical wood preservatives can only treat the surface.

Injecting lumber without high pressure doesn’t allow the chemical to be widely spread.

Increasing the injection pressure could cause chemical backflow and lead to safety concerns for the pest management professionnel.

A PERFECT WOOD TREATMENT AGAINST TERMITES WITH MABI

Step 1 - Drill

First, drill 1/4’’ or 3/8’’ holes according to the size of the wood and the MABI injectors used.
In a diamond pattern, drill 1 hole per foot, 2/3 of the way into the lumber.
Then, with a rubber mallet, insert the MABI injectors into each drilled hole.

Step 2- Install and inject the wood treatment product

Next, inject the wood with the wood treatment product – for example Bora-Care, XT-2000 or any other labeled pesticide approved in your state – between 30 and 220 PSI until runoff is observed: by adapting an injection tip on your termite spray rig or sprayer.
In other words, the aim is to create active insecticide zones inside the wood section to eliminate wood-boring Powderpost beetle larvae which are difficult to reach via surface treatment and to stop the termite progress into the structure.

Step 3- Spray

Finally, spray the wood preservative product over all wooden surfaces according to product’s label. You will destroy all larvae and insects present and get lasting protection against future attacks.
